Thanks From The First Tee of Massachusetts The First Tee of Massachusetts' 2011 season was capped off on November 14 with a celebration at the 5th Annual MGA Junior Golf Fund Tournament at TPC Boston. More than 120 individuals took part in the 18-hole round event.

The First Tee Makes Special Visits Under absolutely beautiful skies during the last week of June, The First Tee of Massachusetts made its annual visits to Westborough Country Club (Westborough, MA) and Dennis Highlands Golf Course (Dennis, MA) for a one-day instructional clinic designed to introduce kids to the game of golf.

Perkins School Comes to MGA Links On May 24th, a group of students and their teachers from the Perkins School for the Blind (Watertown, MA) made their annual trek to MGA Links at Mamantapett (www.mgalinksgolf.com) for a day of golf and fun.

Trevor Bernier Heads to Pebble Beach Congratulations to The First Tee of Massachusetts' Trevor Bernier, who was one of 70 participants representing 47 chapters of The First Tee to be selected to play in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. This official Champions Tour event will be conducted July 8-10 and televised nationally on Golf Channel.

Lynnfield Participants Receive Scholarships Two participants from The First Tee of Massachusetts were recently named recipients of scholarships from the Lynnfield Rotary Club.
Having partnered with Reedy Meadow Golf Course in Lynnfield, the Rotary Club has started taking proceeds from its annual Pro-Am golf outing to be put toward the future academic success of junior golf participants from the Lynn YMCA. This year's recipients are Julina Suggs and Richie Kirby.

Record Numbers Support The First Tee Despite cool temperatures and scattered showers, a record number of golfers took part in the 3rd Annual MGA Junior Golf Fund Golf Tournament at TPC of Boston in Norton. All monies raised will go directly to The First Tee of Massachusetts which provides junior golf programming to thousands of children from across the Bay State.

As a way of bringing the teachings of the nationally-heralded junior golf program to Bay State youth located across the state, the staff of The First Tee of Massachusetts hosts junior golf clinics throughout the summer months.

An accomplished student-athlete at Bristol-Plymouth High School, Bernier was recognized for his outstanding performance on the course, in the classroom and as part of the community.

For the past eight years, the Perkins School has been making an annual trek to MGA Links to experience the game of golf and its basics of putting and full swing.

Barclays Tri-Match 2009 A group of youngsters enjoyed a trip of a lifetime. On August 24, 12 youngsters representing The First Tee of Massachusetts competed in The Barclays Tri-Match at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, NJ. Those golfers were joined by teams from The First Tee chapters of Metropolitan New York and Ireland.

The First Tee Enjoys Kids Exhibition Before the top PGA Tour players took to the course to compete in the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship, a group of more than 130 participants of The First Tee of Massachusetts enjoyed a special event at the TPC of Boston in Norton.
Nearly 250 people attended the Deutsche Bank Championship Kids Exhibition as part of Championship week activities.

A four-player team consisting of Liz LaVerghetta, Cora Bernier, Trevor Bernier, and John Beadle were recently crowned champions of the 7th Annual Golf Channel Invitational for The First Tee.

4th MGA Junior Golf Fund Tournament Is a Hit More than 70 golfers traveled to Worcester to take part in the 4th Annual MGA Junior Golf Fund Tournament. In addition to the golf (prizes were awarded to the top net and gross scorers), the event also raised important funds to support the MGA Junior Golf Fund which supports The First Tee of Massachusetts.

Kids Exhibition 2009 A group of more than 150 participants of The First Tee of Massachusetts enjoyed a special event at the TPC of Boston in Norton. In what has become an annual tradition at the PGA Tour event, children from The First Tee of Massachusetts were treated to the Deutsche Bank Championship Kids Exhibition which featured David Ogron, the world’s fastest golfer.

Boston Bruins Support The First Tee As part of a special lead-up to the playing of the 2009 Deutsche Bank Championship, members of the Boston Bruins were on hand at the TPC of Boston on Tuesday to present The First Tee of Masssachusetts with a check for $18,000.

Playing It Forward Three juniors who participated in the first year of the American Junior Golf Association’s Playing It Forward initiative recently presented their donations to the local charities they chose to support. Shawn Bennett of Sterling, Mass. raised money through the “Birdies for Charity” part of the program.

MGA Links Recognized by USLBA For the second straight year, MGA Links at Mamantapett - the MGA-operated, 18-hole golf course located in Norton - was recognized nationally for its outstanding service to the community by being named the recipient of the 2009 Best of Norton Award.

Trevor Bernier Earns National Scholarship Trevor Bernier, a 16 year old from Taunton who participates in The First Tee of Massachusetts programming at MGA Links, was awarded one of four Pepsi Little People's/The First Tee of Great River scholarships. The scholarship includes complimentary entry fees and travel to and from the 2009 Pepsi Little People's Golf Championships, which will be contested on June 22-24 at five golf courses in the Quincy, IL, area.

Perkins School Enjoys Visit to The Links On May 12, MGA Links at Mamantapett opened its doors to the Perkins School for the Blind - based out of Watertown - for its annual day of golf and lunch. For the past five years, the Perkins School has been making an annual trek to MGA Links to experience the game of golf and its basics of putting and full swing. Throughout the day, the students from the Perkins School proved that the game of golf can be played by anyone, despite their physical limitations.

The First Tee of Massachusetts
The home base of The First Tee of Massachusetts is located at MGA Links at Mamantapett, an 18-hole, par 3 facility in Norton. Satellite facilities are currently open in Springfield and on the North Shore. Each year, more than 1,200 youth from 35 different Bay State communities participate in The First Tee curriculum at these three sites. Additional satellite facilities are set to open on Cape Cod and in the Boston and Worcester regions over the next few years.
