Norton, MA — Congratulations to The First Tee of Massachusetts' Trevor Bernier, who was one of 70 participants representing 47 chapters of The First Tee to be selected to play in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. This official Champions Tour event will be conducted July 8-10 and televised nationally on Golf Channel.
Bernier, a Taunton resident, has been a longtime member of The First Tee of Massachusetts and just last year spent his summer volunteering at MGA Links at Mamantapett.
Bernier was selected for this most recent honor through a process that evaluates participants' playing ability and comprehension of the life skills and character education learned through their involvement with The First Tee. More than 250 applications were submitted.
In addition to playing golf, Bernier will enjoy mingling with the Champions Tour players scheduled to play which include World Golf Hall of Fame members Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite, along with past champions of this unique event, Craig Stadler, Scott Simpson and Jeff Sluman, who captured the title in 2008 and 2009. Chip Beck, John Cook and fan-favorite Fuzzy Zoeller have also committed.
Clint Eastwood is chairman of the event and Arnold Palmer is honorary co-chair. Play will be conducted on Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course on Friday and Saturday, and on Pebble Beach only on Sunday.
An accomplished student-athlete at Bristol-Plymouth High School, Bernier has led his Bristol-Plymouth golf team to two undefeated seasons and two state titles. He is also president of the National Honor Society, works with the local blood drive and volunteers his time with the Special Olympics program. In 2009, he was awarded one of four Pepsi Little People's/The First Tee of Great River scholarships.
Leading up to and during the Nature Valley First Tee Open, participants-many of whom are playing Pebble Beach for the first time-will blog about their experiences.
